Diane Schweisguth, Lake Oswego resident and owner of RileyDawg, has launched a new Hugs and Smiles Comfort Pet product, SmileyHugs, pocket-size, felt comfort plushie dogs and cats designed to bring smiles and comfort wherever and whenever needed.

SmileyHugs are hand-sewn and needle-felted, using eco-friendly and sustainable materials including 100% merino wool felt and 100% wool stuffing. The wools are OEKE-TEX Standard 100 certified, guaranteed to be free of harmful or toxic substances and safe for children.

Each SmileyHugs dog or cat plushie has a big smile and a light teal heart.

"The light teal color was chosen for the heart because it is a calming and comforting color," Schweisguth said.

SmileyHugs were designed in collaboration with Bonnie Johnson of Spruce and Steele Designs in Lake Oswego, and inspired by Schweisguth's dog, Riley.

"I retired the original Hugs and Smiles Comfort Pet, RileyDAWG, but wanted to continue to bring smiles and comfort to people," Schweisguth said. "So the pocket-size SmileyHugs were created. The smaller size makes them more portable, so they can go wherever a smile is needed or they can be held tight wherever worries need to be put away. Looking at the SmileyHugs' big smile and giving it a big hug can help warm the heart and brighten the day."

SmileyHugs have a timeless appeal to children (ages 6 and up) and adults of any age. Measuring about four inches tall, they can easily fit in a pocket, be held in a hand or kept close by, to be looked at and hugged as needed.

SmileyHugs are available at Chocolates by Bernard, 440 Fifth St., suite A in Lake Oswego and retail for $10. For details or large orders, call 503-344-4582.
