Whether you prefer the quiet natural beauty of the outdoors or a lively community celebration, West Linn Parks and Recreation has a variety of opportunities to commemorate the holiday season.

  • Get the family outdoors and enjoy a magical walk down a lighted, accessible path through the woods and to the viewing platform on the Willamette River. The Lighting of Maddax Woods is open nightly from 4-9 p.m. through Jan. 1. This is the 16th year the Friends of Maddax Woods have organized this free event. The park is located at 5785 River Street in West Linn.

  • A winter social at the Adult Community Center taking place Dec. 5 is a relaxing time with easy company and complimentary food and libations. Visitors are invited from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at 1180 Rosemont Road. Get to know the staff, volunteers and patrons of the center and see all that is offered to those ages 50 and better in West Linn.

  • This year marks the 18th annual Community Tree Lighting and Celebration at West Linn City Hall. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. Don't miss the arrival of Santa atop an antique fire engine with the Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue crew at 6:15 p.m. Entertainment is provided by the Corner Church Children's Choir. All food and activities are free of charge while supplies last, including Starbuck's warm drinks and treats. Kid's cookie decorating and craft activities will be in a heated tent and little ones will stay toasty indoors while waiting their turn to visit and take a photo with Santa.

  • A semi-formal Seasonal Dance will be held at the Adult Community Center, located at 1180 Rosemont Road from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 13. This event is planned for the particular enjoyment of older teens and adults with a diagnosis of cognitive or physical disability. The dances provide a supervised and safe environment to socialize and have fun. Cost is $5 per person.

  • The Ugly Holiday Sweater Dash is a tradition for active families that are also holiday fashion forward. This 1-mile Dash/Stroll and 5K Walk/Run is held the morning of Dec. 14. Baby strollers and four-legged friends on leashes are welcome.

    Start and finish next to Willamette Fire Station on Willamette Falls Drive, West Linn.

  • An early packet pick-up is available at West Linn City Hall during the Holiday Tree Lighting on Dec. 6 from 6 - 8 p.m. Donations to the West Linn Food Pantry are also accepted during this time. Have fun while you support your community. Register at

  • The annual Holiday Parade in Historic Willamette is on Saturday, Dec. 14 beginning at 10 a.m. Day-of registration and check-in opens at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is preferred. Forms are available online, or at City Hall and the West Linn Library. The theme of the parade is "Polar Express." There is no cost to enter the parade.

    After the parade visit with Santa at Willamette Fire Station and enjoy hot cocoa, cider and cookies. Please bring a new unwrapped toy and non-perishable food to the fire station to help local families.
