WL Rotary invites all to 2020 Stomp Out Barn Dance
West Linn Rotary Club is preparing for its 2020 Stomp Out Barn Dance benefit and invites the public to attend. The Stomp Out will be held March 14 at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora. Proceeds fund the many community projects WL Rotary undertakes.
"We were looking for a way to really kick it up a notch with our fundraising so we could do even more great work," said Rita Segura, who is the chair of the Barn Dance Sponsorship committee. "Last year was our first ever major fundraiser and we netted over $30,000. This far exceeded our goals so we are back to do it again. We hope to continue this as an annual event."
The event features a barbecue dinner and dessert dash, country music provided by Gary Bennett and the Coattail Riders; line dancing lessons and dancing, silent and oral auctions, a wine wall, full no-host bar and hosted wine at the tables and more.
"We also sold raffle tickets for a trip to Mexico," Segura said. "This raffle prize includes $1,000 cash for airfare or whatever you'd like. The winner will be announced at the dance."
Segura describes West Linn Rotary as a "small but mighty" club. Now in its 13th year, the club has undertaken projects such as restoring and maintaining the West Linn gateway sign on Hwy. 43; electronics recycling day; providing free dictionaries for all fourth grade students in West Linn schools; providing college scholarships for veterans and their families at Clackamas Community College and for West Linn High School students in need; donating food to the West Linn Food Pantry for its Home Plate Project which provides weekend food for West Linn children in need; helping take down the lights at Maddax Woods after the holiday season; painting houses in the Veterans Village in Clackamas; holding a winter coat drive for Clackamas Service Center families in need; providing Thanksgiving turkey boxes for West Linn families in need; installing Peace Poles throughout the community with the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in eight languages to promote peace and understanding; volunteering at Chelsea's Closet which provides a rolling dress up closet for monthly dress up parties for seriously ill children at children's hospitals; supporting an international student exchange program; providing baseball equipment for schools in Zimbabwe, Africa; providing wheelchairs, medical supplies and smokeless cooking stoves in rural Guatemala; and sponsoring Interact Rotary Club, a student run service club at West Linn High.
"We not only do good for West Linn families but also for the surrounding area of Clackamas County and internationally," Segura said. "And we have fun!"
