WL parks: Working to re-invent fall, winter events
The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unimaginable impact upon the world, and as a result, the West Linn community. Last week, after carefully reviewing the current public health guidelines from the CDC and the Oregon Health Authority, we have made the extremely difficult decision to cancel the following events:
— Old Time Fair, July 17-19, Willamette Park
— Music in the Park, July 23-August 2, Tanner Creek Park
— Movies in the Park, July 24-August 4, Mary S. Young Park
As you may know, Governor Kate Brown signed an executive order extending Oregon's state of emergency to July 6. Although the stay-home order may not stay in effect until then, it is clear that physical distancing and limiting the size of group gatherings will remain in place through the summer. Recommended mitigation, social distancing and group size limitations were all key factors in the decision. Given the size and the free-flowing nature of our summer events, this is the most responsible decision we can make to ensure the safety of our community, their families and the staff.
We would like to sincerely thank you for all your patience and support as we work to navigate changes to the Parks and Recreation summer events. We are hard at work re-inventing the fall, winter and spring 2021 events so that we are able to offer engaging programs for our community and we look forward to sharing these revised and new events with you as soon as we are able.
At this time, the Parks and Recreation Summer Activities Guide is only available online. Feel free to register for classes and camps, as some of our smaller programs will be open and/or are being offered virtually online. If for unforeseen circumstances classes or camps are not held, you will receive a full refund of registration fees.
Thank you for your continued support of Parks and Recreation. We know we will move through this challenging situation together and the Recreation staff is working to ensure that the City will be providing recreation programs and special events again when the situation allows.
Information on all of the programs offered by West Linn Parks & Recreation can be found at westlinoregon.gov/parksrec. You may register by internet, mail, or call 503-557-4700 for more information.
