PIONEER FILE PHOTO - A troop of Brownies lead off a previous Molalla Relay for LifeThe 16th Annual Relay for Life of Molalla begins at noon on Saturday, June 4, and the community is encouraged to participate.

The event, held every year at at Heckard Field, 399 Eckard St. in Molalla, will run through Saturday night to 8 a.m. Sunday, June 5.

The theme this year is “Carnival for a Cure.”

So far in 2016, 24 teams and 250 participants in Molalla Relay for Life have raised $14,608.18.

MOLALLA RELAY FOR LIFE - Some of the fun laps planned for this year's event All money raised at this event will go to the American Cancer Society to support education, advocacy, patient services and research. Please join in the quest for a cancer free world.

The Molalla Relay for Life is a family event with something for everyone to enjoy. For the kids, there will be a “Kid’s Zone” with lots of fun carnival activities, including a bouncy house. For the young at heart, a silent auction, a variety of vendors, live entertainment, tattoos and fun food choices will be featured.

It's going to be a scorcher at relay this year. So make sure to use plenty of sunscreen. The relay organizers will have lots of water, ice and even a misting station to help participants stay hydrated and cool. There will be some fun activities to cool you down as well.

Opening ceremonies begin at noon Saturday, followed by a survivor celebration, including a lap of hope and a catered luncheon. Food and other vendors will be ready to meet your needs beginning at noon. Fun laps will be sprinkled in throughout the day, including crazy hats, boas and bow ties, ugly sweaters, western wear and bubble blowing.

PIONEER FILE PHOTO - Luminaria bags will be available for a donation.  decorated for survivors and also for those special people who have lost their battle with cancer.  A special ceremony of remembrance is planned for 10 p.m. Saturday.  
Live entertainment will be sure to bring listening pleasures to everyone.

2 p.m. – Molalla River Academy’s bucket drummers, marimba ensemble and rock band.

4 p.m. - Full Armour with classic blues and modern folk rock.

6 p.m. – Broke ‘N Hip with classic rock and old favourites. Fun music from DJs ‘Boots and Suits’ will also be on tap.

Luminaria bags will be available for a donation. These can be decorated for survivors and also for those special people who have lost their battle with cancer. A special ceremony of remembrance is planned for 10 p.m. Saturday.

Teams will continue walking throughout the night. Those who are not registered on a team may join us until 11 p.m. and then are welcome back at 6 a.m. Sunday. Closing ceremonies and the Fight Back message will begin at 7 a.m.

A few reminders for this year: NO DOGS are allowed at the field. Water, coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be provided to all participants. The parking lot off of Fifth Street is strictly for loading and unloading purposes. Only permitted vehicles are allowed to remain in that lot. That gate will be locked from 11 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday.
