Molalla High School parents and teachers held the first Joy Prom for special education students at the school

JEAN BAIRD - Students who enjoyed the "Dance of Joy."
Molalla High School hosted a dance of JOY to celebrate the special education students, their teachers and the program's administrators. On Friday, April 21, about 30 folks, including parents, came to share refreshments, play games, and dance to music provided by DJ Rob Cummings. Molalla's Figaro's Pizza, All Mine Frozen Yogurt and Subway kindly donated towards the dance. The students had their pictures taken by a professional photographer Jen Ward, who donated her time and services. Also in attendance was Randy Dalton, Molalla High School's principal.

The event was orchestrated and headed-up by Gina Shaver, mother of Zach Shaver, who is a senior this year at Molalla High School. Gina's hope is that this event will return next year and grow to reach even more students.

Shaver said it would be wonderful to have a collaborative effort with Molalla's Special Education Department, the parents, other local schools, and neighboring districts within Clackamas County to provide a JOY dance to celebrate all our students with special needs. After all, it is about JOY, "Just Other Youth!"
