Many Molalla FFA members earned the opportunity to compete at the Oregon FFA State Convention later this month in Redmond, Oregon.

"I'm excited for the new experience of FFA State Convention as this is my first year attending," said FFA member Gavin Barrett. "We have been practicing for almost five months in order to take advantage of the opportunity to compete."

Students had to place first or second at the chapter, district and sectional level contests to qualify to compete at state, and several Molalla FFA members did that.

The Advanced Parliamentary Procedure team, including Barrett, Audrey Andrews, Chairman John Cross, Artemy Ivanov, Janiece Moore and Brice Sperl, are currently in the top four in state, and according to FFA Adviser Mackenzie Behrle, they have their sights set on the state championship.

"We started practicing back in December and have spent countless hours poring over research on current agriculture issues such as land use zoning, erosion control and even the Antiquities Act," Behrle said. "This is an especially bright team where all six members are excellent speakers and exceptionally intelligent."

In addition to competing on the Parli Pro team, Ivanov is also competing as a Star Farmer placement finalist, and has applied for the fruit production proficiency award and the Home & Community Development Proficiency award for his work on the well-known Share the Love campaign, which raised more than $82,000 this year for four local families.

"Artemy has excelled in this position and has grown the Share the Love program over the last two years where he has been in charge," Behrle said. "I hope the judges understand what a difficult position this is and all of the responsibilities that Artemy carries on his shoulders."

"It's something I've worked for my whole four years in high school," Cross said, "and I am excited to see the outcome."

Cross won't have to wait much longer, as the competition takes place March 23-26. All of the qualifiers have been working for months preparing for the state competition, Behrle said.
