Semi-truck crash blocks HWY 213 Tuesday
In addition to continued road construction and landslide repair work, travelers of Highway 213 between Molalla and Oregon City encountered another commute obstacle Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday, May 22 at approximately 11 a.m., Molalla Fire responded to a traffic crash blocking Highway 213 at Macksburg Road.
According to Molalla Fire Chief Vince Stafford, a driver in a semi-truck was attempting to cross Highway 213 on Macksburg Road when the driver of a dump truck traveling southbound on the highway swerved in an attempt to avoid contact. When the dump truck driver was unable to do so, he sideswiped the semi-truck and tipped over, spilling dirt and gravel across the highway.
"There was a little bit of fuel leakage and anti-freeze," Stafford said, "but we just dammed it up as best we could with absorbents…and then ODOT arrived and they were taking over cleanup with state police."
No injuries were sustained in the crash. Both drivers got out of their vehicles and appeared to be doing well, per Stafford.
The crash did block the highway, and travelers were encouraged to detour using Union Mills.
