Colton High School's summer league softball won the state tournament and have been busy earning money to get to the Regional Senior League Softball Tournament, in Missoula, Montana. Their opponents will include teams from Arizona, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, North California, South California and Wyoming.

The tournament runs from July 20-24.

Catcher for the team, Courtney Weinberger, said they will play six teams for a place in the brackets that will determine the regional champions. The team that wins will advance to play in the Senior League Softball World Championship in Lower Sussex, Delaware.

Weinberger said the entire team is pretty good at batting and defensive plays.

"What we bring to the field is our ability to build each other up after a missed play," she said. "We don't give up and we play as a team."

The team has worked hard to raise the funds to get to Montana and thanks to the generosity of the community, they will be leaving this Thursday on the nine-hour drive. Opening ceremonies will be held on Friday and tournament play begins on Saturday.

Watch for score updates from Montana. Also some of the games will be televised on ESPN 2.
