Colton Café quietly opened its doors to the public on July 18.

"We tried to do it inconspicuously and start a little slowly," new owner Amy Hall said. "But that didn't work."

News travels fast in a community the size of Colton. The tables and counter space were soon filled with patrons who have been waiting for the Café to reopen since hearing the news that Matt and Amy Hall had purchased the restaurant that had been closed for several years.

The couple grew up in the small town of Banks II, Idaho, where Amy's parents owned The Ponderosa Restaurant. Amy spent many years working in the family restaurant and Matt helped out when the two began dating in high school. Amy's parents, who now live locally, have been mentoring and helping with the renovations.

The reviews have been great with raves about the Colton Burger and the $6.99 breakfast plate of steak, eggs and potatoes.

Breakfast is served from 7-11 a.m. and the menu includes eggs, omelets, pancakes, panini breakfast, biscuits and sausage gravy, and of course your bacon, ham and sausage plus more options. The lunch menu offers homemade soup, sandwiches, burgers, chicken strips and salads. Most plates come with side order options and there are, of course, desserts. Besides the regular beverage offerings, the café has a beer and wine menu.

Virginia (Norton) Roberts whose parents, Hazel and Porter Norton, were the original owners dropped in for lunch. She reminisced about the days when a jukebox, homemade ice cream and burgers kept the place busy. Roberts said she liked the new country décor. It was right about then she took a bite of the hamburger that had just been served, "Yum! This is good, this is really good"

"Our décor is meant to be home comfort to go along with our food items," Hall said. "We chose the bright yellow upholstery for the counter stools to help cheer anybody up that was having a gloomy day. Reminds me of the early daffodils that we all look forward to after the winter. We were so excited to offer the steak and eggs breakfast, we posted the sign early to get everyone hungry. We are having a blast, taking a risk and believing in yourself is what my parents taught me."

And café-goers are approving and posting about their experiences on social media.

"Had a great breakfast at the Colton Café this morning," Jody Ogden wrote. "Very cute inside. They did an awesome job."

The Colton Café, located at 21038 South Highway 211 is open Tuesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.
