Colton Corner: Firefighter of the Quarter announced
Colton volunteer firefighter, Dan Dunn, was recently named Firefighter of the Quarter.
"Dan was chosen for the honor of firefighter of the quarter because of the dedication, commitment, and sacrifices that he makes for the fire district and his community," Colton Fire Chief Richard (Beau) Beaudoin said.
"Dan is always looking at ways of improving both the district and the fire service itself," Beaudoin continued. "He has spent countless hours at the station on projects as well as donating time, professional skills, and money to help out the district and the firefighters. It is because of his leadership skills and motivation, Dan has been chosen to attend the fire officer academy to become a company officer with the department. He is the type of person you want representing and leading members in your department."
Dunn said he is amazed at the time and commitment the local volunteers put into the department.
"I hope the community knows what all they do," Dunn said. "Besides responding to emergencies, they keep the rigs maintained, drill and train and do the cleaning and upkeep of the facility and grounds."
Dunn grew up in Redland, spent time in the Marines and is now the owner of DLD Construction. He and his family, wife Brooke and their five children, moved to Colton in 2011. Dunn joined the volunteers at the fire department in 2012. He is both a firefighter II and apparatus operator (AO) with the Colton Fire District.
When Dunn sees a way to help, he does. This includes a story from my family. A couple years ago on Christmas day, my daughter, her husband and son were headed up to see the Christmas lights at Aspen Meadows, when the radiator in their car went dry. Driving by, Dunn witnessed Matt standing outside the vehicle. Dunn stopped, looked the situation over, left and returned with radiator fluid. He followed them back to my house to be sure they got there safely.
"He works tirelessly for his family and community," his wife Brooke said, "and with the utmost humble mentality."
