Woodburn Company provides financial donations to Adult Center to carry on programs

Woodburn manufacturer Specialty Polymers continues to provide Molalla's Adult Community Center with funds to keep its constantly growing programs funded. The center recently received $1,000 to go with an earlier donation of $5,000.

"The $1,000 was a complete surprise. We have a special relationship with Specialty Polymers," says Cecily Rose, the center's director. "It has to do with personal ties to a long-term Molalla employee."

"Our program case load grows substantially every year," Rose said. "We started off with 40 people with Meals on Wheels and our nutrition program is now our largest." That program offers four meals per week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday plus drivers passing out meals to those without transportation, she added. Other programs include education and recreational, helping older adults keep their balance along with arthritis therapy.

Specialty Polymers set up its Local Community Service Fund in 2012 to support community organizations throughout the mid-Willamette Valley and Chester, South Carolina areas.

"Specialty Polymers is a strong believer in the Molalla Senior Center and the work they do. So many local seniors benefit from their services," said Sheryl Southwell, president and CEO of the company. "Both Specialty Polymers and my family are committed to supporting local, community based organizations. With our strong connections to the Molalla community and our familiarity with the great work the senior center does, we are honored to be able to donate to their efforts," she added.

The company has been in business since 1969. The Southwell family has supported local organizations in both areas in which it manufactures. Its Local Community Service Fund donates annually to the Woodburn Boys & Girls Club and the STEM Academy at Oregon State University as well as the Molalla Adult Center.

The company manufactures water-based polymers and adhesives designed to provide high quality innovative solutions to the coatings industry.
