The Molalla Alumni Association is now accepting applications for students pursuing post-secondary education

PAMPLIN FILE PHOTO: KRISTEN WOHLERS - Last year's graduating class earned $1.6 million in merit-based scholarships, partly thanks to the Molalla Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Now is the time for seniors at Molalla High School and affiliated charter schools to contemplate what they plan to do after high school graduation.

The Molalla Alumni Association would like to help. The Molalla Alumni Scholarship Fund has money available for students pursuing 2- or 4-year education.

Students wishing to attend community college or other accredited programs for additional training in career, technical studies, or specific trades can apply for a scholarship online. This application is for students who want more education in a specific field and plan to enter the work force. This may include, but is not limited to, study in fields such as plumbing, electrical, dental, culinary arts, beauty, welding, mechanical, agriculture, forestry, graphics or art, firefighting, police work, nursing or massage therapy. To apply, students should have at least a 2.5 GPA.

There are also funds available to students pursuing a four-year degree. This separate application is also available online. Students wishing to apply for this scholarship should have at least a 3.0 GPA.

In 2018, 17 college-bound seniors received checks totaling $25,500, and four individuals received career/technical scholarships for a total of $8,000. In all, the association awarded $33,500 last year.

The number and quality of applications determine how many scholarships and what amounts will be awarded. The minimum value of these awards is $1,500. The association likes to give out as much money as possible.

To apply, visit www.molalla-alumni.org and click on "scholarships" to see and complete the simple application online. Hard copies are available upon request at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Seniors may also speak with their counselor, the people in ASPIRE or their English or vocational teachers.

The 2019 applications are due April 3 by 5 p.m. at 115 E. Main Street, Suite 9, in the Main Street Showhouse. If mailed to our P.O. Box 1050 in Molalla, OR 97038, applications must arrive by 5 p.m. No late applications will be accepted.
