Plans include lots of prizes for children, teens and adults that participate

The Molalla Public Library has planned out its summer reading program with lots of goodies for the participants as well as a raffle at the end of the program. It starts June 1 and ends Aug. 17 and has separate programs for children, teens and adults.

Titled "A Universe of Stories," the theme of this year's special programs tie into the reading program, with one entitled Teen Galaxy Slime, another Nebulous Tie Dye and Space Ship Lego Making.

The children's program is for ages zero through 12. Each participant has to read 20 minutes each day for 20 days, not necessarily together. Obviously kids under the age of 5 or 6 can have their parents read to them. Or they can sign up and bring in a log of reading for five weeks to get a space shuttle glider. Prizes for this age group include a free book, coupons and small prizes along with raffle tickets with a fantastic surprise prize. Or they can pay $5 to clear their fines.

Teens ages 12 to 18 get to read as much as they can and count their minutes toward a prize. At the end of the program they can get one raffle ticket for every six hours they read. The total minutes read will be combined and written down to challenge next year's teen readers. They also can receive an extra raffle ticket for each of the library programs they attend, eight of the June programs are listed below. These prizes include raffle tickets, space puzzles, slime and ingenious raffle prizes.

Adults can participate getting a raffle ticket for every six hours they read. Prizes include a voucher to Molalla Library's Friends book sale as well as prize baskets for winning tickets.

The programs mentioned earlier start just after school ends. These are:

< June 15 at 11 a.m., Teen Galaxy Slime, make in the library and use at home for ages 10 and up.

< June 18 at 4:30 p.m., Using Legos to make space ships as well as the first night for Music in the Park at Fox Park near the pavilion, which features Timothy James, a local guitarist from 7 to 8 p.m.

< June 21 at 11 a.m., for Duplo preschool play.
