Sleep in Heavenly Peace creates beds to prevent children from sleeping on the floor

COURTESY PHOTO: KATIE SIGLER - Volunteers for Sleep in Heavenly Peace gathered on Aug. 11 to build 40 beds for kids in need of a comfortable place to lay their heads.

The volunteer organization Sleep in Heavenly Peace brought together about 50 people on Aug. 11 to build beds for children who now sleep on the floor, said Katie Sigler, chapter president.

This time, space to do the work was donated by Millar's Point S Tires and Service. The people, who obviously had a good time, worked for four hours to put together 40 single beds or 20 bunks.

Materials were donated by R.K. Farms in Aurora and LaRusso Concrete Inc. in Wilsonville.

The beds are finished, but the group still needs more linens, pillows and comforters. They need either donations or the funds to buy them. This build was completed for 25 requests from families in Canby, Molalla, Colton, Oregon City and Wilsonville.

The next bed build is scheduled for Dec. 4, 5 and 6 at the Portland Convention Center. It will be all day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and expects volunteers from high schools, businesses and others.
