Molalla High welcomes new school resource officer
Molalla High School has a new school resource officer. Along with the students, Officer Jamil Kassab started school the week of Sept. 3.
The school resource officer role was new to Molalla last year, when Molalla River School District entered into an agreement with the City of Molalla to co-fund the position.
Gus Watkins served as the SRO during the 2018-2019 year. But with shifting at the police department, Watkins was promoted to sergeant over the summer.
In the search for a new SRO, Superintendent Tony Mann was impressed with Kassab.
"He has a gifted presence with young people," Mann said. "You know it when you see it. He's the kind of person who will make a positive difference in the safety of our schools and in the lives of students and families."
