When the fire crews arrived smoke was coming from the roof and second floor. A second alarm was sounded and units from near the area responded, including Colton with four apparatus and 12 personnel and Molalla with a medic unit, two engines and two water tenders. Fire fighters evacuated a single male occupant and contained the fire to the roof and attic. No one was injured.

The cause is under investigation, but is believed to have started near the chimney. Colton Fire encourages residents to clean and have chimneys inspected annually. The Colton Fire District provides chimney brushes at the main fire station for the public to borrow.
