Oregon Business Magazine names Marquam Hill Ranch the top destination in Oregon

COURTESY PHOTO: OREGON BUSINESS MAGAZINE - Jennifer and Bill Cameron accept the award as Oregon Business Magazine's top destination in Oregon during the 2019 awards banquet on Dec. 17 in Portland.Oregon Business Magazine named Alpacas at Marquam Hill Ranch in Molalla the top destination in Oregon for 2020. More than 95,000 reviews from Google, TripAdvisor and Yelp were analyzed to create the list of popular attractions in the state. They met Dec. 17 in Portland to list the top 100 popular attractions located throughout Oregon.

"Jennifer and I are ecstatic to be included in a list of this caliber and we're extremely grateful for the placing by out guests," said Bill Cameron, who owns the alpaca farm along with his wife Jennifer Cameron.

The couple began looking into alpacas as a hobby 10 years ago, but it quickly turned into something more. They purchased an 18-plus acre property and currently have more than 80 alpacas. They also have won numerous awards, mostly for the quality of fiber produced by their alpacas. Both are very proud of their animals.

"First of all, just to be included in this list of 100 businesses, that's an honor. And then we're at the top, that's incredible," Jennifer said.

This year, Media Firm analyzed more than 66,000 online reviews to find the best destinations in Oregon based on customer satisfaction.

Previous winners have said they've seen substantial growth in business following the award. The Camerons plan on using that increase to help their neighbors.

"We like to show our visitors other places they can go after their visit with us," said Jennifer. "If our business is going to grow, we'll be able to point more people to things to do and places to stay."

The list was formulated by tabulating customer reviews. This shows the importance of managing a business's online reputation.

"Studies show more than 80 percent of shoppers value online reviews as much as a personal recommendation from a friend, so not only is excellent customer service vital, but so is keeping tabs on those reviews and encouraging customers who had a positive experience to submit reviews. This can have a big impact on your business and improves visitors' experience when traveling to our destination," per a press release from Oregon Business Magazine.

Several other Clackamas County businesses also made the 2020 list. These included Swan Island Dahlias, which made it to number four on the list, while the Wooden Shoe Tulip farm was and the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center were also listed.
