Riverside, Beachie Creek, Unger, Wilhoit and Dowty fires
Size and scope:
The fires have burned more than 1 million acres on 1,500 square miles.
More favorable weather conditions and federal reinforcements on Friday, Sept. 11 helped crews turn the corner in fighting the fires.
Air quality in the valley ranges from very unhealthy to hazardous due to smoke from the fires. Residents should stay inside their homes as much as possible and wear a mask when forced to go outside.
Riverside and Beachie Creek
The Riverside Fire has burned approximately 133,799 acres as of Sunday, Sept. 13 and is 0% contained.
The fire stopped short of hitting Colton, stopped about 3-4 miles short of hitting Molalla, got right up to and slightly into the community of Scotts Mills and jumped over Estacada, per Doug Grafe, Oregon Department of Forestry Chief of Fire Protection.
These two fires are of biggest concern for the State Fire Marshal and they're keeping a close eye to see how those two react to changing weather conditions as they begin to converge.
Unger Road, Wilhoit, Dowty fires
Unger Road is located in Colton, Wilhoit is in the outskirts of Molalla and Dowty Road is in the Estacada area. Combined, these fires have burned approximately 5,000 acres as of Saturday, Sept. 12.
