Colton Corner: There will be a couple contested seats during this year's Clackamas County special election

With three positions open on the Colton School District's board of directors, a total of six candidates filed to fill the openings before the March 18 deadline. The decision on who will sit on the Colton school board will be made by voters through the Clackamas County special election on May 18.

The following are the candidates for the CSD board with information submitted by each candidate.

Position Two candidate: Vivian Day previously served as president of Colton Boosters Club and, as a mom of a Colton student, has spent time volunteering in all three schools within the district.

"I am an education supporter, art and music lover, sports enthusiast, local realtor with an interest in ensuring that our school district's policies match up with our community standards. I want to serve the community that I hold dear."

the Herald-Pioneer.

Position Two candidate: Cezanne Decristoforo, is a parent of two students in the Colton School District.

"I can help improve the schools by bringing personal experience and knowledge of evidenced based reading programs. As a working mother, I understand how hard it can be to find the time to navigate the education system when our children are struggling. I will fight for the constitutional right of every child to get the education they deserve. When we work together, we can accomplish a community of transparency and trust."

With one candidate recently stating that while her name will remain on the ballot, because she missed the withdrawal date, she is no longer running, that leaves Position Three with just one candidate: Timothy Behrens. "It's been my privilege to serve the Colton School District as a board member since 2013. I've been part of the Colton community for 20 years. We love our schools. We have an amazing staff and one of the highest graduation rates in the state. As part of the Colton School Board, I will continue to do my best to represent our community and ensure Colton Schools are a great place to go to school."

Position Four candidate: Jeremy Baurer graduated from Colton High in 1997.

"I have kids in all three schools. My focus will be on student achievement and implementing policies so all students can be successful. I will do my best to keep the public informed. I will be very open to listening to public concerns. I will not be afraid to set high goals for the school district. I believe in quality public education and will do my best to keep Colton on track to give all kids the best education."

Position Four candidate: Brenda Roland has lived in Colton since 2006. Her daughter is a 2020 graduate of Colton High School and her son currently is a sophomore.

"I am a native Oregonian, attended David Douglas K-12, and continued to Portland State University for my BS and Master's in Education. I have dedicated the past 24 years of my life to being an educator in Oregon City — listening, advocating and supporting students and families. I believe our children are our best investment, and they deserve a rich education in which to learn, grow and gain skills necessary for their future careers. They all deserve to thrive and succeed. For the past five years, I have also been an ex-officio member of the OC School Board where I met skilled school board directors. I witnessed dedication, compassion, respect and mindfulness during lengthy discussions about policy, budget and other crucial issues. Inspired and ready, I know what's expected of me as a school board member. I bring my enthusiasm, passion, experience and knowledge of the educational system. As a Colton School Board member, I will humbly serve Colton's community and students."
