Mike Bondi will call it a career at the Aurora research facility when he retires at the end of June

With Mike Bondi's tenure as director of the North Willamette Research and Extension Center is coming to a close soon, the search process is in full swing for his replacement.

Four candidates interviewed and made presentations remotely during the second week of March in a first round.

A search committee of a dozen faculty and staff from OSU is managing the process. Dave Stone, the director at OSU's Food Innovation Center in Portland, is the search chair. The dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences will make the final hiring decision based on input from the search committee, as well as direct input from industry and community stakeholders who are involved in the process.

"We believe this is a very strong pool of candidates," Stone said. "The level of enthusiasm among these candidates for the work that NWREC does is really impressive."

On April 19-20 there was a remote visit by one of the top candidates. Included were meetings with the College of Agricultural Sciences administrators, NWREC faculty and staff, a special stakeholder panel, and a presentation that was open to the public.

The goal is to have the new director at NWREC in June. Current NWREC Director, Mike Bondi, retires June 30.
