Indians football competes in weekly 7-on-7 passing league at Woodburn High School, tuning up timing and chemistry

Molalla's football team is wasting no time this summer as they're getting in some competition at weekly 7-on-7 leagues this month at Woodburn High School.

The Indians are under new (well, sort of) leadership as coach Tim Baker joins the ranks.

They looked pretty sharp last Tuesday as they worked on their passing game, with returning All-League players quarterback Chase Jazdinski and wide receiver Jeff Larsen looking to have their timing down already.

"I think things are going good so far this summer," Larsen, a junior, said. "We have been lifting and conditioning three days a week."

"With learning the new offense, things are starting to click together; our timing continues to improve with 7-on-7. Coach Baker is very knowledgeable and positive," he said.

Larsen was a key component to the Indians' offseason last year; starting as a sophomore, he quickly became one of Jazdinski's go-to weapons in any scenario, particularly on third down, as Larsen could be counted on to pull in anything within his wingspan.

"I tell my teammates to stay positive, to keep working hard, and to continue to go to workouts so that we are ready to go at the beginning of the season," Larsen said. "I think we are going to have a great season."

Jazdinski, a senior, follows the tradition of Molalla's mobile quarterbacks, and he'll likely take on a bit more of a running role under Baker's Wing-T offense, but the aerial attack will still be there.

"Things are progressing smoothly and everyone is picking it up," Jazdinski said. "[Baker] seems very happy with the way we are moving."

"I'm telling the guys to keep pushing like they are; we are having good numbers at our workouts, which is helping with the [coaching] transition," he said. "We are young and the guys are getting good time at 7-on-7. I feel confident in the way the team is moving; it will be a good season."

Molalla gets the same schedule as last year, with the home teams swapped. They take on Putnam away on Sep. 1 at 7 p.m., followed by their home opener against North Marion on Sep. 8.
