After competing against TVC opponents, the team went up against a myriad of other schools

PMG PHOTO: JIM BESEDA - Molalla's Nick Lucas was named the Outstanding Male Athlete at the 14th Dick Baker Invitational track and field meet Saturday at Gladstone High School. Lucas won the 110-meter high hurdles in a personal best 15.45 seconds, edging teammate Michael House by 16-hundredths of a second.
Molalla's track athletes competed in a pair of events last week. First on Wednesday, April 24 they hosted league foes Estacada, North Marion, and Gladstone. The boys' team eked out the top spot with a score of 56, besting second place Gladstone by six points. The girls snagged second place with 41 points, trailing their Gladstone counterparts by seven points.

Then, the team traveled to Gladstone High School for the Dick Baker Invitational on Saturday, April 27. Molalla's boys' team came in third out of nine teams, while the girls came in fifth.

In the league meet the sprinters shined. Senior Tanner Nauta took first place in the 200 meters, and fellow senior Jose Uribe finished third in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. The 4x100-meter relay team with the two of them on it, as well as Michael House and Nick Lucas, took first place with a time of 44.49 seconds.

Those four sprinters also sit at fourth place in the schools 4x100-meter relay record books. Nauta, Uribe, and Lucas also hold spots in the top 20 fastest marks in the school's 100-meter history.

Lucas took first place in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles at the league meet, trailed slightly by House. The two also took first and second place in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles at the Dick Baker Invitational. Lucas, who took first place with a time of 15.45 seconds, also etched his name into the record books with the third fastest finish in school history. House holds the fourth fastest finish with 15.61 seconds.

Sprinter and junior Lydia Jeffries-Call took first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.72 against her league foes, and finished ninth at the invitational.

Senior hurdler Emma Andrews set a new personal best in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16 seconds flat. The time puts her in third place all-time behind 2017's Desirae DesRosiers and 2013's Claire Thomas. The Invitational also brought out the best in freshman hurdler Elizabeth Grandle, who finished in fourth place with a PR of 16.77 seconds.

Senior Katie Sandberg took first place in the shot put against the Tri-Valley Conference opponents with a throw of 36'11", and claimed second in the discus and javelin as well. At the Invitational, Sandberg took third in the shot put.
