Molalla boys' tennis grinds through to state
Molalla's boys' tennis team will have representatives at the state meet at Oregon State University on May 17-18.
On the singles side, senior Lucas Kendrup battled his way through the district bracket to make it to the semifinals. While he ultimately came up short there against Philomath's Colton Beckstead, the trio of victories before that were enough to secure his spot in the final meet of the year. Kendrup carved his way through Sisters' Keaton Green, Estacada's Cody Syring, and upset Woodburn's Jonathan Swanson in the quarterfinals.
The other Molalla representatives heading to the state meet will be senior Mason Simpson and Pietro Elia who reached similar heights in their district run. After getting past doubles teams from Estacada, Stayton, and Philomath, they ultimately succumbed to eventual district champions Luke Haslam and Nick Stucki of Philomath.
Kendrup will meet up with Henley senior Brian Baker in the opening round of the tournament on May 17. Elia and Simpson will meet Vale's Marco Ramirez and Japheth Carlson on the same day.
