Molalla boys' tennis swept at state
Molalla's boys' tennis team sent representatives to Corvallis to participate in the state tournament on Friday, May 17, but it was a difficult day for the Molalla citizens who were swept in the opening round and consolation quarterfinals.
Doubles pairing of Pietro Elia and Mason Simpson began the day facing off against Vale seniors Marco Ramirez and Japheth Carlson. Against the Vale tennis players, Molalla's doubles team lost a hard fought three sets 2-1 (2-6, 6-4, 6-4). In the consolation semifinals Elia and Simpson faced off with Catlin Gabel's Alex Aitchison and Michael Putz, ultimately losing 8-4.
Molalla senior Lukas Kendrup battled with Brian Baker from Henley, ultimately dropping the first match 2-0 (6-3, 6-4). In the consolation quarterfinals, Marist Catholic freshman Luke Villano defeated Kendrup 8-6 to close out the day.
