Olivia Spitzer and Madie Beguelin each had eight kills in Tri-River Conference victory

Colton's volleyball team did something last week it had not done in four years — win at Gervais.

"It was a great game. It was a real team effort, too," said Colton coach Shannon Weinberger of the Vikings 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-23) Tri-River Conference win last Monday. "These girls really do want to win. They really do want to try for the playoffs. That was our goal in the beginning and it's one thing to say it, but to then show it, especially after a hard beginning and learning each other. It all meshed and fit really nicely at Gervais. They never let down."

Maddy Pierce and Courtney Weinberger each served aces to win games two and three. Olivia Spitzer and Madie Beguelin each had eight kills.

The Vikings played a tighter match Wednesday at home, edging Western Christian 3-2 by winning the fifth set 15-9.

"That was a little frightening for me, not that I didn't think we would win, but our defense struggled a little bit more in that game, but they still pulled it out," Weinberger said.

Colton had to play without middle blocker Sophie Holden.

Sophomore Hailee Hordichok stepped in and had six kills.

"She definitely filled some big shoes and did really well," Weinberger said. "She made a difference when she went in."

Madie Beguelin had eight aces.

"She's been consistently getting a ton of aces for us, so her serving has really benefiting us that past three games," Weinberger said.

The Vikings also swept Chemawa Wednesday to finish the week 3-0.

Olivia Roland had nine kills.
