AURORA — Colby Findley entered the Class 4A Special District 1 wrestling tournament with unfinished business after getting disqualified in the fourth-place match a year ago.

At North Marion High School, the Molalla junior placed second in the 126-pound division on Saturday.

In the finals, Findley was pinned by Tillamook senior Quintin Metcalfe, the top-ranked 126-pounder in 4A.

"It was nerve-racking getting up to the match," Findley said. "I should have taken my shot right off of the whistle. He ended up taking me down and then he pinned me."

Findley will wrestle in the state tournament for the first time on Feb. 28-29 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

"It's an awesome feeling being able to go to state," Findley said. "I knew this was going to be my year."

Molalla sophomore Christian Roberts is returning to the state tournament after also placing second in the district at 132 pounds on Saturday.

Roberts lost to Wooburn senior Freddy Hernandez in the finals by a 10-0 major decision.

Hernandez is ranked No. 3 in 4A at 132.

"It just comes down to wanting it more and who has better technique," Roberts said. "He just has more experience. That's all it is."

Three more Molalla wrestlers qualified for the state tournament.

Augden Shepard placed third at 182 pounds. Maxam Salvetti (106) and Chase Martin (195) both took fourth.

Roberts is looking forward to a better showing at state after losing his first two matches last season.

"I feel more confident because I've worked harder than I worked last year," he said. "This next week I'm going to work as hard as possible."
