Joseph Moore recorded four pins to get on the podium Saturday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum

PORTLAND — Wrestling in the 170-pound division, Colton junior Joseph Moore recorded four pins to place third at the Class 2A/1A state championships last weekend at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Moore opened the tournament Friday by pinning Rogue River freshman Logan Basharel in 23 seconds. Moore then pinned Culver junior Nicolas Navarro in the third period to advance to the semifinals.

After getting pinned by Oakland senior and No. 1 seed Austin Van Houten in the semifinals, Moore regrouped to pin Hepner sophomore and the No. 2 seed Conor Brosnan to advance to the third-place match.

Moore then pinned Toledo senior Hunter Lewis in his final match of the tournament.

Molalla took five wrestlers to the Class 4A state tournament, but none were able to get on the podium.

Sophomore Christian Roberts got the closest.

At 132 pounds, Roberts went 2-2, getting knocked out of the consolation bracket by La Grande senior and No. 3 seed Cole Isaacson in a 12-2 major decision.

Sophomores Augden Shepard (182) and Chase Martin (195) both went 1-2.

Sophomore Maxam Salvetti (106) and junior Colby Findley (126) finished 0-2.
