Molalla, Country Christian get XC seasons underway
Molalla High got its cross country season off to a wet and sloppy start Friday afternoon, but the soppy conditions didn't dampen some solid performances at the Cougar Flat Track Race at Country Christian in Molalla.
In the boys 5,000 meter varsity race, Noah Roth led the way with a fourth place finish with a time of 19 minutes, 14.7 seconds.
Joining Roth in the scoring column (top 5 finishers score for each team) were Clay Sperl (10th, 20:41.8), Kadyn Eves (11th, 20:48.9), Colten Strohmeyer (15th, 21:30), and Clayton Huitt (25th, 23:23.4). The varsity squad was rounded out by Osten Terry, who finished 27th (23:42.4).
In the team race, Western Christian won with 21 points. Country Christian was second with 57, just edging out Molalla (57 points) on the tie-breaker.
Molalla had no runners in the girls varsity race.
Country Christian opened its season with a four-way home meet Friday, getting a solid performance from Elijah Wallbaum, who was their top finishes in fifth place (19:14.9).
He as joined in scoring for Country Christian by Josh Davis (9th, 20:38.9), Timothy Ewing (12th, 21:02.6), Lonnie Hester (16th, 21:57.2), Casey Ives (23rd, 23:05). Also running varsity were Milanno Camarena (24th, 23:17.2) and Trent Phillips, (26th, 23:30.8).
In the girls race, Country Christian had only one entrant, Ella Duckworth. She traversed the 5K course in 26:14.5, good enough for fifth overall.
