Soccer teams plays a pair of intense matches against Estacada this week with plenty to like in both

Molalla boys soccer team put a nice feather in its cap Tuesday afternoon with a 2-1 takedown of unbeaten Estacada.

Evan Hugo gave the Indians the early lead in the first half, converting a spot-on cross from Aldo Avila into a goal. Molalla went up 2-0 midway through the second half when Alex Mendoza got a slick through-pass from Hugo and converted the opportunity.

Estacada got one back later in the match on a penalty kick opportunity, just sneaking it past goalkeeper Antony Ehleringer.

The return engagement between these two teams on Thursday was a "tough and intense, back and forth game," according to head coach Ryan Gates.

In the end, both teams would tally one gaal and the match would end in a 1-1 tie. Estacada grabbed the lead in the first five minutes when a deflected clearance found its way into the back of the net.

"After the initial pressure from the 11 seniors Estacada had (senior night), we started to climb back into the game and get our chances," said Gates.

Eventually, the Indians would get a 3-on-3 opportunity that saw Antuan Peterson deliver a slick pass to Aldo Avila, who depositied it into the net to tie the score.

"The second half was just as intense with a lot of back and forth," said Gates. "We hit the post and crossbar, and they did, too. In the end, no team was able to score."
