A good number of first- and second-place finishes highlight the Viking effort in the meet at Kennedy HS

The Colton track team got involved in a five-way meet Thursday at Kennedy, racking up some first place finishes in the process.

The boys team finished third overall with 56 points (Kennedy won with 104.5), while the girls were fifth at 26 points overall.

On the boys side, Ben Behrens had a successful day, snagging a win in the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches) and adding second-place finishes in the shot put (35-8) and discus (91-11). He also joined Caleb Behrens, Jeb Ethington and Cody Tiano in placing second in the 4x400 relay (50.10 seconds).

Zane Dinnell snagged the other first-place finish for the Vikings, winning the shot put with a throw of 36-6. Ethington added a second place in the javelin (117-8) and Tiano was second in the long jump at 18-7.

The girls didn't score a lot of points, but most of those came from Rowyn Lawrynuik, who captured three second-place finishes — shot put (27-5 ¾), discus (77-0), and javelin (73-0).

Victoria Hanson was third in the javelin with a throw of 70-7.

Colton returns to the track Wednesday, April 28, with a meet at Salem Academy.
