Molalla drops extra-inning tilt with Madras
It took nine innings to find a sliver of a difference between the Madras and Molalla baseball teams Monday afternoon, April 26.
Those two extra innings provided just enough room for Madras to carve out a 5-4 win over the Indians, who had the tying and winning runs on base when the third out was registered.
The game was tied 3-3 after a regulation seven innings, with Molalla scoring runs in the second and fifth. Molalla had a scoring opportunity in the sixth but couldn't punch it across.
In extra innings, Madras tallied a pair in their half of the ninth, but Molalla almost took it away, scoring one run and then loading the bases before Madras was able to record the final out.
Isaac Klementis was rock solid on the mound, going six innings and giving up five hits and three earned runs, with eight strikeouts and four walks. Caden Raihala came on when Klementis reached his pitch limit and was sturdy, giving up a single hit with four strikeouts and four walks.
Offensively, Mike Stephens was 1-for-3 at the plate with a pair of walks and two RBIs. Caden Alexander was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases, while hitting the ball hard in his two other at-bats. Tucker Ward and Chase Maricich each scored a run for Molalla.
Molalla will turn right around and plays Madras again on Wednesday, April 28, this time on the road.
