The tennis team, competing at Black Butte Ranch, will all advance when action begins again on Thursday

Molalla's boy's tennis team had some people advance as they kicked off their district tournament at Black Butte Ranch on Monday.

The No. 1 doubles team of Anthony Ehleringer and Caden Cox defeated their Estacada opponents by a 6-2, 6-1 score to advance to Thursday's second round. Also advancing was Molalla's No. 2 doubles tandem of Dakota Burke and Sennett Grassi, who battled through a tough match against North Marion opponents before winning 7-5, 6-2.

On the singles side, Joshua Lam had to use a second set tie-breaker to get past his Cascade opponent. Shad Stephens advanced via a 6-0, 6-0 win over a Sisters player. Tag Grossnickel and Lucas Berreth both lost in the first round, but advanced by winning their consolation bracket matches.

Double team of Allen Simental and Adam Mendoza advanced through the first round of the consolation bracket as well.

So, the entire Molalla boy's tennis team returns for more district tournament playoff competition, some fighting for state qualification," coach Laurel Roses said.
