After beating Culver to start the week, Vikings tangle with undefeated Vernonia in a tight battle

It was a mixed bag for the Colton girls basketball team early this week. The Vikings snagged a 40-31 win over Culver on June 1, then watched Vernonia stage a late comeback in a 27-28 loss June 2.

In the win, the Vikings got scoring from seven different girls en route to the win, including Dani Terry with 15 and Olivia Haines with 10.

Vernonia 28, Colton 27

Colton led most of the way in this one against an unbeaten Vernonia squad. Unfortunately, the Vikings weren't able to close it out as Vernonia staged a fourth-quarter rally that gave them the lead with about two minutes left.

Colton would be unable to regain the lead by the final buzzer. Haines led all scorers with 14 points.

Vernonia sits atop the Northwest League standings and is unbeaten on the season. Despite the non-league loss, Colton sits atop the Tri-River Conference with a 3-0 mark (3-1 overall).
