A quartet of Molalla High volleyball players recently cemented their college academic and athletic plans

A quartet of Molalla High volleyball players recently signed letters of intent to play at various colleges and universities to continue their education and athletic pursuits. Those athletic pursuits will take them far and wide, from Kansas to Salem and points in-between.

Olivia Lewis - signed to play at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. Received a full academic and athletic scholarship. Position - setter. Team Awards - MVP 2020, 2021, Most Inspirational 2020. Tri-Valley League awards - 2020 (COVID season) - 1st team all league. 2021 - First team all league and Player of the Year. 2021 All State Second Team. Played club for NW Elite Volleyball in Oregon City this year. Has played for Silverton, NW Power, and Santiam Canyon Volleyball Club as well.

"Olivia is a fantastic setter who can also hit really well. She will be a huge asset to her team as a solid leader and great teammate," Molalla volleyball coach Lauree Nelzen said. Lainie Mead - signed to play at Chemeketa Community College in Salem. Position - Outside Hitter/Middle Blocker. Team Awards - Most Inspirational 2020 and 2021. Tri-Valley League Awards - 2020 (COVID) - 2nd team all league. 2021 - 1st team all league. Played club for NW Power and NW Elite VBC.

"Lainie is a strong, passionate player who can bring some big hits and blocks for her team. She is a great teammate and floor leader with a lot of energy," Nelzen said.

Sydney Thompson - signed to play at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, Oregon. Position - Outside hitter. Team Awards - MVP 2019. Tri-Valley League Awards - 2019 - Honorable Mention all league. 2020 (COVID) - 2nd team all league. 2021 - 1st team all league. Played club for NPJ, Chaos Volleyball, NW Elite, and N. Clackamas VBC. "Sydney is one of the most technically sound players I've ever coached. She is a great passer and strong hitter whose energy and passion will be an asset to her team," Nelzen said.

Taylor Lishka - signed to play at Linfield College in McMinnville. Received a $21,000 academic scholarship. Position - Middle Blocker. Team Awards - Most Improved 2020. Tri-Valley League Awards - 2021 - Honorable Mention All League. Played club for NW Elite. "Taylor is a sound middle blocker whose strength in reading the hitters will serve her well next year. She is one of the most improved players to go through Molalla, working extremely hard in the off season to increase her skills, especially her passing and defense," Nelzen said.
