Country Christian's Elizabeth Grandle earns girls basketball 1A honors to lead several Cougars

In a vote of the 1A Oregon Basketball Coaches Association, the Country Christian boys and girls basketball teams got some nice post-season accolades, including a player of the year.

Each year the coaches of Oregon's top teams vote to select the 1A OBCA All-State Boys and All-State Girls teams and Coaches of the Year.

The process begins with each league selecting the All-Star teams for their league. The first team selections from each league provides the pool of players voted on by the coaches of the top three teams in each league.

Elizabeth Grandle was tabbed the co-player of the year along with Crane's Kortney Dorman. A senior, Grandle was a unanimous first-team all-state selection this year. But she was not alone in snagging accolades for the Country Christian girls team.

Annie Bafford was tabbed for the second-team for her play this season. "Lizzy Grandle was one of the best basketball players and athletes I've ever coached," coach Russ Halverson said. "She was one of those players who could play any position on the floor and was a stud at all of them. She was also a great leader and one of those kind of players that make the coach look really good, even if I didn't have a clue. I was also very excited to see Annie (Bafford) get all-state recognition. She's a very skilled player, did a ton for us and still has another year of high school hoop to play."

On the boy's side, Matthew Weissenbrunner was named a second-team honoree for the Cougars.
