Stepson in Bend hospital

According to Sheriff Jim Adkins, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a shooting on Friday, March 28, at about 10:39 p.m., at a residence on Southwest Park Lane in the Culver area.

"An investigation revealed that the suspect, Jeffrey Kroo, got into a physical altercation with his stepson, Justin Boothby, who is 37 years old and also lives at the residence," said Adkins.

"After fighting and wrestling around, Jeffrey retrieved a pistol and shot Justin once in the chest," the sheriff added.

Boothby was transported by his mother to the Terrebonne Fire Station, where he received medical attention before being airlifted to St. Charles Bend.

Following an investigation, Kroo was arrested at 3:11 p.m. Monday on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, negligently wounding another, menacing, pointing a firearm at another, unlawful use of a weapon, reckless endangering and harassment. He was transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility, where he was held without bail until his arraignment Tuesday, at 1 p.m., after the Pioneer's press deadline.

Boothby, who received a gunshot wound that went completely through his chest, was listed in good condition on Tuesday at St. Charles Bend.

The investigation is continuing.
