RV event draws all Oregon chapters

The RVs and campers rolling into the Jefferson County Fairgrounds mark the unofficial start to a busy summer season in the Madras area.

The annual Good Sam's Jamboree brings many RVs filled with campers to town, and they'll stay from June 18-22. This is the 45th annual Samboree in Madras, and the theme this year is "My Holidays Hoopla."

The arrival of the Good Sams is the first of a run of events in the county that don't slow down until after school starts up again.

The annual Jefferson County Rockhound Powwow will take over the fairgrounds June 25-29. One of the largest Native American powwows in the West — Pi-Ume-Sha — returns to Warm Springs from June 27-29.

A busy July kicks off with the big Madras Independence Day event at Sahalee Park, and evening fireworks; the Relay For Life celebration July 12-13; and the county fair July 23-26.

August features the Culver Crawdad Festival Aug. 16, and the Airshow of the Cascades Aug. 22-23. These are just a handful of the community events scheduled for this summer.

A great place for details on all the summer events in Madras is the Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, located at 274 S.W. Fourth St. in Madras (541-475-2350).
