July temperatures higher than usual
Temperatures in Madras averaged warmer than normal during the month of July, according to preliminary data received by the National Weather Service in Pendleton.
The average temperature was 68.4 degrees, which was 2.5 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 90.8 degrees, which was 5.5 degrees above normal. The highest was 98 degrees on July 6. On 14 days, the temperature exceeded 90 degrees.
Low temperatures averaged 46.0 degrees, which was 0.6 degrees below normal. The lowest was 39 degrees, on the 20th.
No precipitation was measured during July, which was 0.54 inches below normal. Also, there were no lightning flashes detected in the vicinity of Madras, according to Earth Networks.
Precipitation this year has reached 5.40 inches, which is 0.82 inches below normal. Since October, the water-year precipitation at Madras has been 9.55 inches, which is 0.15 inches below normal.
The highest wind gust was 29 mph which occurred on July 5.
The outlook for August from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center calls for above normal temperatures and near to below normal precipitation. Normal highs for Madras during August are 84.7 degrees and normal lows are 45.4 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.34 inches.
