No one was home at a residence on Southwest Highway 97 when the fire was reported Monday evening.

HOLLY M. GILL - A home on U.S. Highway 97, at Bear Drive, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 10:50 p.m. June 25.A home and shop were a complete loss following a late night house fire Monday, on U.S. Highway 97, just south of Madras.

A fire at a home at 4304 SW Highway 97, owned by Charles and Laura Hendrix, was reported to the Jefferson County Fire Department at 10:46 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found both the house and shop completely engulfed in flames.

"Crews acted quickly to extinguish the fire, but the fire had already spread throughout the home and shop, destroying the buildings and contents," said Capt. Kasey Skaar.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but the American Red Cross indicated that the fire affected two adults and one child.

The fire department responded with 16 volunteers, five staff members, three engines and a tender.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
