Roth new hire for police
The most recent hire at the Madras Police Department, Josh Roth, 27, might seem familiar to Madras and Jefferson County residents.
Roth, who was born and raised in Madras, was sworn in recently as a patrol officer, filling out the police department's roster.
"It's always exciting whenever you hire somebody new," said Police Chief Tanner Stanfill, who heads the department, which has 11 full-time employees. "We were fortunate to get an individual with Josh Roth's background and qualifications. Officer Roth has worked for both the Warm Springs Police Department as a patrol officer and for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office as a patrol deputy."
After graduating from Madras High School in 2009, Roth attended Eastern Oregon University, in La Grande, for three years, studying education, before deciding to go into law enforcement.
While still attending EOU, Roth said, "I had an opportunity to go on a ride-along with Warm Springs (Police Department) during Christmas break and really liked it and decided to do it."
In the summer of 2014, the Warm Springs Police Department hired Roth, and sent him to the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, where he earned basic certification and graduated in 2015.
"I loved working in Warm Springs; it was a lot of fun," said Roth, who worked as an officer there for about two years, until he was hired by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in 2016.
"Then, I had the opportunity to work for the Madras Police Department," he said. "I like the city of Madras, and this is where my wife and I live, so this is where I want to work."
"With his training, experience and education he will be eligible to apply for intermediate certification with DPSST in the very near future," said Stanfill.
"A lot of officers and deputies who have worked with Josh spoke highly of him," the chief added. "Officer Roth is local, well-rounded and energetic. Officer Roth wants to serve the people of Madras and serve them well."
Roth and his wife, Meagan (Fine), have a daughter, Hadley, 1.
