June temperatures near average
Temperatures at Madras averaged near normal during the month of June, according to preliminary data received by the National Weather Service in Pendleton.
The average temperature was 59.1 degrees, which was 0.3 degrees below normal. High temperatures averaged 76.1 degrees, which was 0.1 degrees below normal. The highest was 90 degrees on the 25th.
Low temperatures averaged 42.2 degrees, which was 0.4 degrees below normal. The lowest was 32 degrees, on June 1.
Precipitation totaled 0.69 inches during June, which was 0.01 inches above normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on three days, with the heaviest, 0.52 inches, reported on June 21.
Precipitation this year has reached 5.04 inches, which is 0.64 inches below normal. Since October, the water-year precipitation at Madras has been 7.35 inches, which is 1.81 inches below normal.
The highest wind gust was 43 mph, which occurred on the 20th.
During the month of June, there were 71 lightning flashes detected in the vicinity of Madras, according to Earth Networks.
The outlook for July from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center calls for near normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. Normal highs for Madras during July are 85.3 degrees and normal lows are 46.5 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.54 inches.
