Fire destroys shop on NW Elk Drive
A shop on Northwest Elk Drive was declared a total loss, following a 7:27 p.m., fire on Aug. 9.
Owners Fred and Patty Farner reported a fire at their pole-constructed shop, located eight miles west of Madras, in a wildland/urban area.
The first responding wildland truck protected nearby structures, while a second wildland unit was able to contain a grass fire on less than one acre. Arriving fire trucks assisted with attacking the fire, salvage and overhaul. The contents of the shop were also lost.
Jefferson County Fire District personnel responded with one fire engine, one truck, two tenders, one command vehicle, one medic, 10 volunteer firefighters and five staff members. Two wildland vehicles also responded, along with mutual aid from Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services personnel.
Fire crews remained at the scene for 3 ½ hours in 100-degree heat, and the cause is under investigation.
