Weather colder than usual in September
Temperatures in Madras averaged colder than normal during the month of September, according to preliminary data received by the National Weather Service in Pendleton.
The average temperature was 55.2 degrees, which was 2.4 degrees below normal. High temperatures averaged 74.5 degrees, which was 1.9 degrees below normal. The highest was 91 degrees on Sept. 8, the only day that exceeded 90 degrees.
Low temperatures averaged 36.0 degrees, which was 2.8 degrees below normal. The lowest was 27 degrees, on Sept. 24. There were five days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.
Precipitation totaled 0.01 inches during September, which was 0.40 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on one day. Precipitation this year has reached 5.05 inches, which is 1.92 inches below normal.
Since October, the water-year precipitation at Madras has been 7.36 inches, which is 3.09 inches below normal.
The outlook for October from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center calls for near normal temperatures and below normal precipitation. Normal highs for Madras fall from 71.0 degrees at the start of October to 56.0 degrees at the end of October.
Normal lows fall from 34.0 degrees to 29.0 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.85 inches.
