Four injured in Highway 26 accident
Four people were injured on a head-on accident on U.S. Highway 26, at High Meadows Lane, Sunday, Oct. 14, which closed the highway for approximately five hours.
According to a preliminary report from Oregon State Police, suspect Ramone Jamison Thomas, 41, of Warm Springs, was interviewed at Oregon Health Sciences University, where he was taken for treatment. Three accident victims were taken to OHSU Emmanuel for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries.
Pending charges against Thomas, of driving under the influence of intoxicants, assault, reckless driving and three counts of reckless endangering, were sent to the district attorney's office for review. The accident is still under investigation.
Traffic north of the accident had to go back toward Portland, or take Highway 35 to Hood River, then take Highway 197 through Maupin to get into Central Oregon. Traffic south of the wreck were diverted on the Wapinitia cutoff to Highway 197.
