Veterans, community members attend Nov. 12 dedication ceremony at Culver Veterans Memorial Park.

SUBMITTED PHOTO - Culver Mayor Nancy Diaz and Councilman Hilario Diaz hold the new signs that will be put up near the north and south entrances to the city of Culver.About 45 people attended a ceremony dedicating the city of Culver as a Purple Heart City on Monday, Nov. 12.

"The VFW from Madras and Deschutes County were present and assisted with the ceremony," said Mayor Nancy Diaz. "Someone, who asked to remain anonymous, donated a Purple Heart medal to the city. We will have it placed in a shadow box, according to protocol, and hung in the Culver City Hall office for all to see."

Jefferson County Sheriff Jim Adkins and JCSO detective Bryan Skidgel attended the dedication ceremony, held at the Culver Veterans Memorial Park, honoring all veterans who have served the country.

The ceremony was opened by veteran and retired Oregon state trooper Jon Granby, who sang the National Anthem. Following the anthem, Diaz read a proclamation and unveiled the street signs, which the Oregon Department of Transportation will post on both the north and south ends of Culver.
