The MAC board approved gradual rate increase more than a year ago to align with similarly-sized districts.

HOLLY M. GILL/MADRAS PIONEER - The Madras Aquatic Center has increased its rates for use of the pool.Effective this month, the Madras Aquatic Center has increased its rates for using the pool, whether for a drop-in session, a punch card, or an annual membership.

"We, as a board, approved gradual rate increases over a year ago because our pricing scale was significantly lower than those of similar sized districts in the state," said Jinnell Lewis, chairmann of the MAC Recreation District Board of Directors, adding that the costs of maintaining the facility have increase.

Drop-in sessions are now $5.50 per person for youths from 3-17, or seniors age 60 or older, who live in the district, and $7.75 for out-of-district patrons. Adults from 18-59 pay $6.50 per visit for in district, or $8.25 for out of district.

Previously, the rates were $4.75 for youths and seniors and $5.75 for adults in district.

The district includes Madras, Warm Springs and Metolius. Culver, Crooked River Ranch and Camp Sherman are outside the district boundaries.

In-district memberships are now $200 for the first adult, $117 for the second person, and $25 for each additional family member. Out-of-district memberships are $264 for the first adult, $174 for the second person, and $40 for additional family members.

For youths, seniors or veterans, the first person is $165 in district, or $232 out of district.

"If you calculate out the price per month per family, it ends up being almost half of most gym membership fees for one individual," said Lewis.

An in-district family of five, with two adults and three children, for example, would pay $392 for an annual pass, about $32. 67 per month. The same family from out of the district would pay $558 annually, or $46.50 per month.

The price increases for the 2019-20 year took effective March 1. The schedule is posted on the MACRD website at www.macrecdistrict.com.
