Entertainment, food and more will be featured on Fifth Street for the popular community event.

SUBMITTED PHOTO - Spanish-themed youth dancing was featured during one of last year's First Thursday events in downtown Madras. The event provides entertainment to the community, while showcasing its downtown businesses.
Grab your family and friends and head out to the Madras Downtown Association's First Thursday Park and Play event, the first of the season from 5-9 p.m. May 2.

Thursday's event will feature a fiesta theme, with music, vendors and dancers performing along D Street in downtown Madras..

Dancers from Studio K and Unique Performing Arts will perform in the Sunshine Corner, next to Reynoso's Jewelry. Small market stalls at the corner will be serving tacos, tamales, fruit cups, and fruit water drinks that people can purchase as they watch the dancers.

On the same side of the street, Studio on Fifth will be continuing to hold carving sessions on Thursday nights. The studio is a great demonstration spot, where community members can step into the studio for a closer look at wood carving.

Art Adventure Gallery will be open at 5 p.m., with art celebrating the Community Read book, "Birding Without Borders."

The Patty Davis Band will be playing at Wild Bleu, with Bad Pacifist playing at Willow Creek Taproom, located next to OK Barbershop in the food truck alley. Both bands will be live from 6-8 p.m.

The Park and Play events are held the first Thursday of the month, from May through September. Downtown business stay open for the events and area artisans, nonprofits and businesses outside of the downtown area can set up vendor booths. The events feature live music, art openings, street food and shop open houses.
