This year, Jefferson County residents dropped off a total of 878 loads, weighing 154.81 tons at the annual FireFree Community Cleanup at Box Canyon Transfer Station.
The two-weekend event allowed local residents to drop of yard debris.
"We had another successful weekend, with weekend totals as follows: total loads taken in, 405; total weight, 73.26 tons," noted Tom Jaca, maintenance captain for the Jefferson County Fire Department. The previous weekend, residents dropped off 473 loads, weighing 81.55 tons.
This year's totals were substantially higher than last year's, when residents took 661 loads, weighing 102.3 tons to the FireFree event.
The event was sponsored by the Jefferson County Fire Department, Madras Sanitary, and Jefferson County.
"A special thank you to Madras Sanitary and Jefferson County Adult Probation service for helping with another successful event," said Jaca.
