Temperatures in Madras averaged slightly warmer than normal during the month of April, according to preliminary data received by the National Weather Service in Pendleton.
The average temperature was 47.0 degrees which was 1.3 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 61.3 degrees, which was 0.7 degrees above normal. The highest was 79 degrees on April 19.
Low temperatures averaged 32.7 degrees, which was 2.0 degrees above normal. The lowest was 20 degrees, on the 30th. There were 15 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.
Precipitation totaled 1.66 inches during April, which was 0.74 inches above normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on eight days, with the heaviest, 0.57 inches, reported on April 8.
Precipitation this year has reached 6.22 inches, which is 2.23 inches above normal. Since October, the water-year precipitation at Madras has been 7.70 inches, which is 0.23 inches above normal.
The outlook for May from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center calls for above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation.
Normal highs for Madras rise from 64.0 degrees at the start of May to 72.0 degrees at the end of May.
Normal lows rise from 33.0 degrees to 40.0 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 1.01 inches.
